Anish P A, Senior Broadcast IT Manager, leads projects and oversees technical operations at the channel.

Challenge: Improving Keying and Durability

The team at News Malayalam identified several pain points with their existing paint solutions. They needed:

  • Enhanced durability to withstand frequent use
  • Improved finish quality to reduce repainting needs
  • Superior chroma and keying quality for flawless AR/VR/XR productions

ChromaLight Solution

To overcome these challenges, News Malayalam adopted ChromaLight’s two-layer system:

  • Cyclorama Green Basecoat Paint
  • Cyclorama Green Topcoat Paint

The paints were applied on wooden walls and vinyl sheet flooring, using ChromaLight’s recommended application techniques.

Results

  1. Cleaner Keys and Reduced Spill
High luminance and uniform color dispersion led to significantly cleaner keys with sharper edges. Spill was drastically reduced, resulting in faster, more accurate keying—even in complex lighting setups.
  2. Durability and Ease of Maintenance
The washable, long-lasting surface withstood frequent setups without visible wear. Reduced repainting and downtime gave the studio greater confidence and cost efficiency.
  3. Improved Workflow and Output
Consistency across shoots meant fewer adjustments and faster setups. Post-production work was minimized, allowing the team to focus on storytelling rather than technical fixes.

Anish P A, Senior Broadcast IT Manager, News Malayalam says:

“Our production quality has undoubtedly improved with ChromaLight. Even with difficult lighting setups, we achieve more consistent outcomes and spend much less time in post-production. The durability and spill reduction features have made a significant difference in our workflow.”

Conclusion

By integrating ChromaLight’s basecoat and topcoat chroma key paints, News Malayalam elevated its broadcast quality, reduced operational inefficiencies, and strengthened its position as a pioneer in immersive Malayalam news broadcasting.
